Burley's Short Game Tips
Short Game
A great short game can turn a bad ball striking day into a decent round. The short game is much easier to learn and manage than a full swing.
When teaching my students short game I make it very clear that they have the most advantage over the green by getting the ball rolling as quick as possible. Try some chips and pitches from around the green shooting at different distances, you want to hold an angle with the hands infront of the ball (Foreward Press). By making a tilting motion with the spine, you can take the hands out of the shot.
The bunker is the best place to be if you have the right setup to the ball. I picked up a really great tip from Lee Trevino about bunker play many years ago. When you are in a green side bunker imagen the letter "V" the right side of the V is your target line, the left side of the V is your feet line, and we will have the ball in the back of our stance. All we are looking at doing is cocking the club up quickly and bringing it back down to the ball on this steep angle.
